This summer beach resort, was once a small fishermen's town. It is located on Rocha´s coastline, which is a Uruguayan department that lies 298 km away from Montevideo and 613 km away from Porto Alegre.
Its year round population is 650 inhabitants, mainly fishermen and craftsmen.
In summer it turns into one of Uruguay's most popular summer resorts and welcomes a great number of European, Brazilian, and Argentinean tourists.
Its beaches take up about 10 km of the Uruguayan coastline. Punta del Diablo does not have hotels, but offers inns. With a mystic atmosphere, Punta del Diablo literally means Devil's Point, and is famous for its many shipwreck legends.
